REFUGE

I was talking to an international student and friend of mine the other day, when the word “refugee” came up. She looked at me a little puzzled, English not being her first language, and asked me to explain the meaning of the word. I proceeded to unpack it, realizing that I always understand words better when I have to explain them to someone who has never heard the word before. In my simple terms I explained it as someone who seeks refuge or safety, and proceeded to demonstrate using an example and hand gestures. Later, when I looked up the meaning Webster slightly corrected me in that it focuses on the person who escapes or flees a situation. Either way, I realize that we are all refugees in one sense or another. Yet we do not necessarily need to escape to a certain place, but to a certain ONE. All that we need for safety, security,  and well-being  for our physical, spiritual, and emotional being are found in God. I am SO glad that I can find refuge in Him.

Psalm 62:1-2 “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”

Psalm 62: 7-9 “My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Psalm 91:2 ” I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
